The Vice President of Business Intelligence (BI) is responsible for maturing and leading Ultra’s BI Strategy including Business Analytics, Competitive Intelligence, Data Governance and Risk Management. This includes delivering clear, reliable performance metrics; providing actionable insight from complex business data; and leveraging data to understand and improve business processes, reduce costs, and increase revenue.
He/she is a leader, both of their team and across Ultra and understands that:
Data is a Product:
Different teams have different analytical and reporting capabilities. The VP of BI will be responsible for building, managing and maturing Ultra’s Business Intelligence efforts.  This individual must understand the different needs of the teams and build a data visualization and analysis platform to support a wide variety of use cases, having built or been a member of a successful, mature business intelligence and/or “Big Data” team at another organization.

Use cases range across:
  • Expert users requesting self-service data
  • Executive dashboards
  • Thoughtful operational reports
  • Analysis questions from non-expert users
  • Financial planning / what-if scenarios
Inherent in any product is supporting users, training, intentional and thoughtful design and advocacy for cultural change; and the BI Director has a track record of success.

Data is an Asset:
Data can help reduce usage costs, identify unprofitable behavior, fraud, indicate revenue opportunities, improve sales targeting, and much more. The BI Director is keenly aware of the value in building and presenting data within the company to gain efficiencies, drive revenue and aid decision making; and has a track record in delivering real business results.

Data is a Responsibility:
The BI VP will understand that data has to be managed - governance on policy access, legal compliance, architecture and testing is key to a successful platform. They also know the importance of harmonizing analysis between teams and ensuring that data analysis and research is presented accurately and consistently between teams and platforms -- “One True View” of data.   

Data is always Evolving:
The BI VP knows that Big Data is strategic to Ultra’s growth as a company. As capabilities and scope grows, he/she knows how to incorporate modern statistical and machine learning techniques to move from Descriptive Analysis to Predictive and Prescriptive Analysis. They also know that the collection of data is a never-ending process - they have a proven track record of working with teams and vendors to prioritize, capture and systemize data from all parts of the company.

The candidate will be working with the support of the Chief Strategy Officer, and reporting to the Chief Operating Officer.
  • Build and manage teams of 10+ personnel;
  • Ten (10) or more years of relevant leadership experience, and five (5) or more years in Business Intelligence or a combined equivalent
  • Have a B.A./B.S. in related field, or an equivalent in education and experience
  • Extensive background in management of reporting deliverables, data warehousing, data modeling, data visualization platforms
  • Experience in driving cultural change within organizations;
  • Understands how a data-driven organization uses information to make critical business decisions across departments and disciplines;
  • Experience leading in a fast paced environment, in a growing department and growth company
  • Possess intellectual curiosity, analytical rigor, strong work ethic and good business intuition are musts
  • Strong leadership and operational experience
  • Proven hands-on experience in leading organization-wide analytical projects and partnering with engineering teams to deliver technical platforms
  • Demonstrated superior critical thinking skills and experience in strategic planning and execution of technology architecture roadmaps
  • Demonstrated ability to manage the day-to-day tasks of diverse teams, while effectively influencing senior management on key decisions and direction
  • Be able to communicate effectively to executive leadership in both business and technology roles
  • Ideally has a background in Financial Analysis, Operations or Marketing
  • Experience at working with a startup, with demanding timelines,
  • A strong track record of interdisciplinary and inter-departmental achievements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Possess a demonstrated ability to develop and mentor staff
